April Inquiry in Kindergarten

Children learn by exploring and asking questions "I wonder" ....

I love how nature and natural curiosity can help a child  learn and the best part they are interested and excited to learn.

Friday April 22 Happy Earth Day.

On Friday was Earth Day we discussed ways to help our Earth and protect nature. We discussed recycle and how our robots were made of recycle materials . The leftover material brought in by a Scarlett was  a way to save the Earth. Children used the material to make clothes for their toys.  The afternoon we shut the lights and refused to use any technology  for the last 100 minutes. We planted carrot, lettuce and sunflower seeds.

Everyday we should pause and reflect about our Earth.
Happy Earth Day!!!!

Wednesday April 20 Seamstress and Tailors

The children have been bringing stuff toys to add to their learning. A student brought in material as a way to recycle leftovers. The children have been cutting,  measuring and sewing to create clothes for these toys. It is work in progress for some and completed works  for others.

Awesome skill they are learning.

Tuesday April 19 Helping Earth Rangers.

On Tuesday a couple of our friends went to Miss Wood and Mrs. Chapman's room to build their bird house. They purchased the bird houses to support Nature Helpers106's  endeavor to raise funds for Earth Rangers.

Thursday April 14 Earth Rangers visit Alcon Glen

On Thursday we had a visit from Earth Rangers. Your child may have been talking about a Falcon flying near their head in the gym or a live Painted turtle with a pointed beak they saw on camera projector or maybe the ring tail lemur that jumped from one perch to another who incidentally pooed on the floor for all to see. All these animals were at our school and created an enormous amount of excitement in our school. Here is a video Miss Oscroft took of  South Africa Serval. This cat has the largest ears in the cat family in the world and can jump 10 feet from a stand point.

More pictures are on twitter account .

Tuesday April 12 Art Rotation.

On Tuesday we had art rotation.  Room 146 will visit our class and complete the activity we did today. We used recycle materials to create robots. The children have been interested in gadgets and spies for period of time in addition to their structures. We discussed how gadgets are tools to help a person. Here are some samples of their beautiful creations

I can't wait to share this idea with room 146.
ART IS AWESOME!!!

Wednesday April 6 Waffles and Maple syrup

Wednesday we had waffles for a special treat . We had a big discussion about the  maple tree and the sap and the process to make syrup. Here is our story.

The sap in the pail during the day not frozen.

The frozen sap on Tuesday  evening.

I put it on a big pot to thaw and boil.

Mr. Tizzard  and Noah helped strain the sap to clean  it with filters.

It boiled for 5 hours and I put it in a smaller pot.

The syrup .

This what it looked like after it cooled down. We sampled this syrup on Wednesday.
Yummmy!!!!

I loved learning with the children. This was new for me too.
