Wed. Sept 19 Can you make a tower?

I set up a STEAM activity for the children making towers. 
Jasvir a bicycle.
 Faris a robot.

 Jasvir a basketball net. He actually threw a small lego to show his thinking.
 Lauren an ice cream shop.
White is vanilla.
Red Chocolate.


Aliyah measuring almost as tall as the mirror. She added more and the she said " the tower  is taller."

Mon. Sept 17 Miss Blake

I want to welcome Miss Blake to our class.  Miss Blake has an undergrad in Psychology. She is completing her Education Degree. This is her second year in the completion of her Education Degree. You may see her in the future teaching your children. Miss Blake began her placement on the first day of school and will continue until the middle of October.

Welcome to Room 102 for the 2018/19 Year

Welcome to Room 102
I am so excited  to spend Thinking and Learning with you for another year. Welcome  new families to our classroom. Some information about our classroom.
THINKING  AND  LEARNING
Thinking and learning time a when children learn through play. A large block of our day is set aside for thinking and learning time. The students  are learning through hands on , guided and independent play.  The last 10 minutes of time are set aside to document the learning.The blog will show samples of the learning in our classroom.

DOCUMENTATION

Year 2 students have used this process to  document their learning.
Children may be talking about documenting during thinking and learning time.The last 10 minutes of thinking and learning is set aside so children can document their learning. 

The children have been getting to know one another and learning the routines
in the classroom.
Here is some things we have been doing the last 2 weeks.

Spider we found the first day.
 Documenting our learning.
 Sunflower from seeds we planted last May.
  Fun way to show we are the same but different
 Looking for seeds in the pine cone and wondering where they went.

 Chrysalis from Monarch Butterfly.
 Blanket game to get to know one another and learn our names.
  Pumpkin we planted from Ben O seeds and then the pumpkin plant Mr. P planted with Grade 6 class in the spring.
Mr. P put a cover over the pumpkin to protect it from the squirrels birds and small creatures.

Alan brought in an Aloe plant . We discussed the medicine inside and each got a chance to feel it.

 Mrs. Grillo bringing a flower plant for the butterflies. She has been bringing in the caterpillars the  net and been educating us with knowledge about the monarch butterfly and  recording  her findings. Male, female, how many and which ones survived .

Goodbye

Well it is sad to say goodbye. Goodbye means a new chapter in your life is about to begin. Goodbye to the children moving to grade 1 and moving to new schools.

Ms.Carruthers and I want to say Thank You for the wonderful year thinking and learning with you. 
I believe we learned a lot this year and shared so many wonderful memories.

Everyday you should learn something new.
Read every night and you will learn something new.

Thank you for all the wonderful gifts and love you have shared with us.

Last Week in 2018 kindergarten Year.

The  last week of school was a whirl wind for the students and me personally.
As you watch your little one finish first and second year of school . I had the pleasure to see my youngest child graduate from High School. It is still a proud and profound moment.
