Tuesday May 31 Measurement and Distance

The children have been exploring  distance today in the hallway. The girls used marbles and post it notes to measure the distance of the marble when it left a long tube.

 

They discussed near and far. They also counted  25 square tiles as the longest distance of the marble . The girls are writing the numbers 1-25 to document their findings.

 

The boys built their own vehicles and had a race to see which car went the furthest from the start point.

 

Their findings was interesting. The smallest car won. The boys discussed that it was the lightest. We had three races and the three smallest vehicles won each time. Funny enough it was not the same vehicle. I wonder why ...... that is another discussion. You got to love FDK. questions all the time.

 

 

Monday May 30 Bees and Flowers

This Bumble Bee is from my back yard. I wanted to share the pictures and video to our families who love nature like me.

 

 

 

Feel free to talk to your child about bees. I plan on discussing them tomorrow. I have a little homework myself to gather some information to share.

Friday May 27 My Personal ID Kit.

On Friday in your  child's mailbags we sent home a kit for you to  set up for your child. We never want to think about horrible things happening to our children but the reality is some people are just unfortunate.  I had these kits for my children when they were young and had them set up in the event if it had to be used. They never had to be used so I count my blessings. The kits explain what you need .

Friday May Body tracing and Murals

Today we went outside and did some body tracing and created  murals and posters. we discussed that a mural was a large piece of art that is generally shared work by the artists.



Friday May 27 Park visit

On Friday we went to the park . The children continue to explore . Today they followed a small trail that has overgrown bushes.  We also brought our snacks because we wanted to enjoy the beginning of the day. We knew we would miss cereal time so we had a little picnic.

 

 

 

This looks like a familiar movie. It is not dinosaurs but children having fun.

Thursday May 26 Paper Structures

Today we visited Miss Gilligan's grade 3 class to see their paper structures. Miss Gleben  has been  organizing this venture and invited us to do a gallery walk and talk to the students.  We learned other ways to make structures with tape and paper. The students had lots of conversation with words like stability, gravity, strong, balance, frame. and sturdy.

Wednesday May 25 Zumba

We had the opportunity to follow Tanya  with new Zumba moves . The children  really enjoyed the music and dance moves.

Friday May 20 Surprise Creatures

Last night  Mr. Donny gave us some cool creatures for the classroom. He in turn got them from Miss Otway. We have them in an aquarium . We had the children draw and write what they think they are.
